Ain’t she a doll?

Or at least, ain’t she playing with one?

Hugging dollie to her chest

That’s right. Phoebe has started to play with toys. Another thing we can’t forget when leaving the house. Anyway, there are a boatload of new photos on Flickr.

So, Um, I Guess I’m, Like, Famous.

Wow. Mike (my father-in-law) just googled me. But wait, that’s not the crazy part.  It turns out I’m on the IMDb (Internet Movie Database). Guess who else is there? Brad Pitt. That’s right. Me and Brad. Just two guys hanging out on the internet. One with a six-pack, one with a keg. Doesn’t matter who shows up, at least it’ll be a party.

The Sleep Machine, and Other Wonders

Phoebe loves Colby, too!

[Drumroll Please...]

Phoebe Alice Raphael, age 3 months and 11 days, SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT LAST NIGHT.

It was amazing. She went down shortly after 8:00 PM and I woke at about 6:00 AM and realized the amazing fact that I had not had to wake up once prior to that… AND she was still asleep! She finally awoke at about 6:30 AM, all smiles and coos, at which point I fed her. Over 10 straight hours of uninterrupted sleep, people. Amazing.

Anyway, a very well-rested Mom and Dad headed off to work, leaving the Phoebster in the capable hands of her Nana and Papa for the day. Shortly after arriving at work I got an update: Phoebe ROLLED OVER! My oh my. I guess all that rest gave her the strength to finally push on over from her back to her front. It ought to be noted, I guess, that she was on a little sheepskin rug on which she spends most of her floor time and that when she got over on her side, she was near the “edge” so it helped her finish off the maneuver, but STILL. I mean WOW.

So our kiddo is off and running. Well, not RUNNING, but that’ll come soon enough. Meanwhile check out our latest photos and videos from our trip to Colby last weekend. Ahhh, the place where Phoebe’s mommy and daddy met and fell in love. Sigh. Memories.

One Semester of Spanish - Spanish Love Song

I don’t have much to say about this except that it is perhaps the most awesomest thing I have ever seen on YouTube, ever.

Ever.

Baby Mama On Campus

Alma Mater is Latin for nourishing mother. It’s also, as most everyone knows, the school, college or university that someone has studied and, usually, graduated from.  How appropriate that Stacy and I are returning to our alma mater with baby in tow.  Stacy is now, officially, a nourishing mother.

Stacy and I met during my freshman (her sophomore) year at Colby.  It was a long courtship, with a few hiccups along the way, but well worth it.  That was 1998.  We’ve been together ever since.  And so, a decade after meeting and falling in love on Mayflower Hill, we’re returning with Phoebe.

I’m excited to walk around campus, to see what’s changed, what hasn’t.  But most of all, I’m excited to be there with my baby and my wife.  The last time Stacy and I were together at Colby was for my brother’s graduation in 2004.  So much has happened since then.  We’re married.  We have a home.  We have a child.

Of course Phoebe won’t understand the significance of the trip.  But at least she’ll be making it with us.

It feels full circle.

Limelight

Phoebe's First Spoon IVideos, videos and more videos. Also some photos. We’ve uploaded some more Phoebe videos and photos to Flickr for perusal.

This kid continues to amaze. We’re taking her on her first big trip this weekend (to Maine). It’ll be interesting to see how she handles not being at home in the evenings.

Arts for Breakfast

Ah, the Arts… so delicious.

Back to the daily grind…

…it really wasn’t that bad.

No, really. I decided to work from home today–what with the price of gas and not wanting to shock the ol’ system with too much change after three months of maternity leave. I took Phoebe to daycare first thing and she seemed very relaxed and happy. I fed her once before I left and arranged to return during my lunch break (another perk of staying on this side of the mountains) to feed her again.

It had been nice to have a day the week earlier for Phoebe to come hang out at daycare without any other children there (vacation week), just to get to know the house and the care provider a little better. It was probably more for me than for her, quite frankly.

Anyway, there were no tears and I loved getting to go see her at lunch. Tomorrow is the real deal, as I make my 55 miles commute to the state capital…

We’ll see how THAT goes.

Monday’s Child is Fair of Face…

Well. Phoebe is eleven weeks old today. Eleven weeks! I would categorize her head control as “beginner to intermediate,” as I am now able to grab her under her arms and lift her high above my head, and her social skills as “above average,” as she is so quick to catch your eye and give you a heart-melting smile of utter delight. After an informal poll of many family members who have had the pleasure of meeting little Phoebe, it may safely be stated that this kid is one of the happiest babies EVER. She is more often than not all smiles with a bright-eyed, inquisitive nature. I often go in to check on her while napping just to find that she’s been awake for goodness knows how long… just contentedly looking around her and taking in the scenery. In a word, she’s great.

It was also very convenient of her to arrive on a Monday. And not just any Monday, but THE Monday that I had put in my “maternity leave” memo as the estimated start date for my time away from the office. That has made it excruciatingly easy to keep track of how soon I will be returning to work… the final week countdown has begun.

So, on that note, I am going to enjoy every last minute with this fabulous lady until I have to go back to the daily grind. We’re going to the lake!

Daddy Day Care

Father + Baby Daughter + Bottles + Home + Alone = Pandemonium?

Nope. No pandemonium. My first day solo with Phoebe has gone quite smoothly so far. We’ve played, read books and even made it to the gym (Phoebe, not me). And of course, she has also fed. A total of four bottles so far with nary a hiccup - literally or figuratively.

To top it all off, she keeps falling asleep. I think she’s taking it easy on me.
